About Our Sessions

Sessions That Promote Development And Encourage Fun!

At Jack and Jill's we want our sessions to encourage development and to be fun and enjoyable for your child to attend. Here you can learn more about a typical day at our pre-school and the specific areas of learning we cover using the framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

We hope through the information below you are able to understand a little more about our sessions. Information about the types of session we run and session availability can be found within session times page. If you have further questions or are interested in visiting us to observe one of our sessions at "first hand", please do contact us.

A Typical Day At Jack and Jill's

Arriving at pre-school

Upon arrival at pre-school the children are encouraged to hang up their coat, to collect their name ready to post in a "post box" located near the entrance to the setting and to put their drink on the table. Parents are encouraged to accompany their child into the setting and to settle them at an activity of their child's choice.

Activities

Each day a number of tables are set out ready for activities which cover all areas of development within the EYFS framework; some tables are left empty to allow children to make their own choices. Once the session is under way the children can participate in any and all of the activities available.

Depending upon the weather conditions, children can go outside and play in our secure outside area. The outside area is themed differently each day and we encourage outside play throughout the year. Only if it is raining heavily or it is icy do we not go outside. During the summer we use the gazebo and organised water play days, where swimwear, sun cream and towels are required.

Snack Time

At approximately 10.30am the café is opened and the children can choose whether or not they wish to have a snack. Here they are encouraged to help themselves under supervision to a healthy snack along with a drink of either water or milk.

Group Time

In addition to the children participating in individual activities of their choice, they will also spend time participating in their key worker groups. These activities will include circle time and other group activities, which include playing games together and singing.

End of the session

At the end of each session the children are played a piece of music which signifies to them that it is time to tidy up. All the children are encouraged to tidy away the toys that they have been using. The children then sit together for a story, before being collected for home.

Areas of Learning

Our sessions support your child's learning and development using the 7 areas within the "Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)" framework. Through the EYFS framework your child will gain knowledge, learn new skills and enhance their understanding of the world around them.

The 7 areas within the EYFS form the basis of the daily activities your child will participate in, but we also include elements in our sessions that encourage their unique interests and take account of their unique needs. Each child has a learning journey which contains their learning and development assessments over the 7 areas of learning.

We welcome and encourage your input regarding your child's development, experiences and family life, especially if you have any special events/occasions you could share with us.
